How to Choose Suitable Motor for Pump

A pump is a mechanical device that can transport liquids to a designated location, and the supporting motor of a water pump is the core component that provides power to the water pump and drives its operation.

What aspects should be considered when selecting a motor to ensure the normal operation of the water pump?

Generally speaking, if there is no motor with variable frequency operation, high voltage motors are recommended for water pumps of 400kw and above. If there is a motor with variable frequency operation, low-voltage motors (such as 660v) can be used for motors below 1000kw, but the transformer should be arranged close to the pump room at this time. In high voltage system, Y2 series high power AC motor

is very suitable for water pumps because of compact design and good performance.

The principle for selecting the power of water pumps and electric motors is that the power of the electric motor should be slightly greater than the shaft power of the water pump. In general, the standby power coefficient K for small and medium-sized water pumps is set to 1.1 to 1.2, while for larger water pumps, K is set to 1.25 to 1.35.

The rated power of high-power water pumps should reach 55kW or above, and the working voltage should reach 380V or above, like IE4 series water pump AC motor. The power frequency is usually 50Hz, and the rated voltage may include various voltages such as 380V, 660V, 1140V, etc., allowing a deviation range of ± 5%.

When using high-voltage high-power motors, attention should be paid to the cooling system of the motor to ensure that the lubricating oil pressure and temperature are within a reasonable range. At the same time, attention should be paid to the design and layout of the piping system to ensure stable operation of the system.

In addition, in order to reduce the impact on the power grid and other electrical equipment, while protecting the water pump itself, we recommend using voltage reduction starting or soft starting methods for the electric motor.

The motor control system is equipped with overload and overheating protection devices, and the protection level of the control cabinet reaches IP44 or above.
